Thomas the Train Room November 20, 2009

I have been busy both at work and at home to get a post in and am still mad that I can’t find my camera and am going to ask Santa for a new one for Christmas.  We have been working hard to decorate Elvis’ room in a Thomas the Tank theme, hoping this will help him to sleep in his own bed better.  He has been waking up at two and crawling in bed with me which wakes me up and puts me in a cranky mood.  I would take any advise on how to keep Elvis in his own bed all night so I can get some sleep.  I sewed him a new Thomas quilt, pillow case and curtains and my husband painted the walls and put wall clings up.  I love it and like how it is all a theme.  I am almost done with my own room and making it purple and green, I am working on embroidering some pillow cases and fixing some curtains now.  I hope I will have it done by next week, I am having my sister and her husband over for Thanksgiving and would like to have the rooms done by then but I am not going to stress about it because I can always have her stop by when I do get them done.  I want to work on the play/sewing room next and get some organization to it next.  My friend Katie has introduced me to Rockstars and that has helped me to get some more done but the next day I am feeling the no sleep from them.  I only really like the taste of the coffee flavored ones but I have not tried that many of them.  I better not get hooked on them but they are helping me get a few more things done.

Happy Birthday to me! Well on Wednesday of this week but I did not get a chance to blog until today. My sister Karie sent me this youtube of Elvis, thanks Karie.  My little Elvis picked me out a Tinker Bell cake and had his dad help him get it, all on his own! 

Happy Halloween!  I know it is a day early but we got to dress up at work today and I know I will be busy with Elvis tomorrow.  I dressed up in my poodle skirt and saddle shoes, my favorite outfit, to bad I only get to wear it once a year.  Elvis was sad this morning, he had wanted me to be Batgirl for Halloween to go with his Batman costume.  Maybe I will try to be Batgirl for him tomorrow.

Below is one of my favorite poem about how being a Christian is like carving a pumpkin.  I found it on DTLK growing together website a couple years back and have made it a tradition for when we are carving pumpkins.  Elvis is understanding Halloween more but he is also getting scared of it and I want him to enjoy the dressing up and the pumpkins and the fall harvest more than the scary parts.

Swinging By with a Hi! October 21, 2009

Thought I should Swing by and check in before I have to go out-of-town for work.  Thanks to my sister Karie letting me barrow her digital camera I can post some of my most recent completed projects. 

Purple Rail Fence Quilt

Let’s start with the quilt I worked on on my week off. Sorry about the lighting but I was still learning her camera.  I like how the quilt turned out and would like to make one with creams and browns next.  This was my first time sewing this pattern and I really enjoyed it and it was not one I had to concentrate to hard on which is good with a three year old always asking to help.

I also got Elvis’ crosstitched blanket completed.  This took many hours but I was very happy with how it came out.

Elvis has also been doing gymnastics every Monday night and is loving it, he can’t wait to have all the “pretty girls” help.  He needs a little help listening but I think this is also helping him listen.

A Week Off! October 1, 2009

I had last week off  and boy, did I need it.  I did not take the usual vacation but I had such a good time being a stay at home mom to my little guy and also got some sewing time in.  I have gotten my fence rail quilt (pattern found here)done and just need to do the edging on the quilt which is a nice fall weather project to have at the end of the day.  I also made many more crayon rolls for Elvis to give out as birthday presents later this year.  Elvis also made his first apple pie with momma just helping to put in the cut up apples.  I was proud of him and he really got into the stirring.  We used a different recipe because I had some sour cream that needed to be used up, it was called Sour Cream Apple Pie.  I was also very proud of Elvis for learning to use the computer.  I have been letting him play some spoutonline.com games and he was happy playing with mom but wanted to learn how to do it on his own.  I was worried that he would not get the concept of the mouse but was I wrong!  It only took me showing him a couple times and he was off and has not stopped yet.  It is nice that the computer is set up in the same room as the sewing machine and it would keep him busy learning while I sewed.  We also took a small ride with Uncles and Grandma to the neighboring towns for some thrift store shopping.  I found me lots of goodies in the terms of clothing and have been enjoying them this week back at work.  Still did not find that darn camera!  I wish I had to be able to post some pictures. 

Elvis has also been enjoying Soccer even though momma is not.  It is hard for me because Elvis would rather play with the other kids then play soccer.  He also loves to be the clown that the parents watching the game laugh at.  I hope he starts getting into it but at least he is having fun.  He is also doing gymnastics again for his third year and is doing really good and really listens to  teachers for that one.

Soccer Mom September 11, 2009

Elvis starts soccer tomorrow! He is very excited and has already tried on his special socks, the ones with the shin guards in them. We have never been a soccer family but it is the only sport where they start kids this young. Elvis would love to play baseball, he carries his bat everywhere. I hope he has fun and I hope he stops talking long enough to play. He had some friends come over and play tonight and would not be quiet enough to play he just ran around behind them telling them what they were doing and that they better not do that. I think he is going to be an ESPN commentary when he grows up.

My friend Katie has dared me to put up my list of projects and I am working on it. I got to cross off a few thing off of it this last three day weekend. I got Elvis some donuts made for his play kitchen thanks to the great tutorial on Skip to my Lou and have found out how much fun it is to sew felt! I think I might be in trouble of having another craft to love. My list is getting so long I don’t know what I want to work on next. I also have wanted some placements for my table and have found an awesome way to make them. I am trying to make my kitchen look kind of Mad Hatter-ish with lots of tea cups, pots and lots of colors.

I need to let the dog out for the night and then get some sleep, Elvis has to be at practice at 8:30. I guess I am now a soccer mom!

Eventful Weekend August 31, 2009

Elvis and I had a very full and eventful weekend and I am proud of how much we got done.  Elvis had a play-date with one of his good friends and his mom just happens to be one of my good friends so that made for a nice get away and a chance to enjoy talking.  When we got done playing at the park we had to go to some of the stores that we don’t get to go to much.  We went to the thrift store and though we searched hard trying to find something that excited us we could not find anything.  Oh well, that is how thrifting goes, some times you find stuff sometimes you don’t.  We did have a little luck at a few garage sales we stopped at.  I found Elvis some clothes and he found some dalmatian “nick-knacks” that he wanted for his room.  He also decided he really likes the “nick-knacks” word the lady used and had to point out any nick-knacks he found the whole day.

When we got home and got lunch and some study time in we then made a crayon roll with the help of Skip to My Lou blog and tutorial.  I had been wanting to make Elvis one of these for a while but he first went through an eating crayon faze and then I got to busy to make him one.  Well when we went shopping this last time he got to get new crayons because they were having the back to school sales and I had to get the roll made.  I used an old pair of jeans that Daddy was throwing out because they had a hole in them.  The jeans made a great outside and then I put red in the inside of the roll.  This was so easy and fun we went ahead and made one for his colored pencils as well.  He also asked for one for his friend so I will try to get that made before we meet up with them at the park this weekend.

Then we made Grandpo some Zucchini muffins with our abundance of garden Zucchini.  We also made Zucchini Parmesan.  He loves to cook, I think because he is allowed to make somewhat of a mess in the kitchen because I can clean it up.

Life August 25, 2009

I hate that I have not posted regular, especially now that I have the Internet at home.  I think about it often but get turned off when I think how nice a picture of what I am doing would look with the post.  Then I get mad at myself for still not finding my camera and start looking through stuff trying to find that camera.  By the time I give up I have forgotten what I was going to post.  You better watch out, once I find my camera you will be overwhelmed by posts.

My son Elvis is studying Elephants this week with his dad.  I found some good books, movies, and even a puppet at the library for him and he seems to be having fun.

I have been finally catching up at work.  It has been a long summer of me feeling so overwhelmed at work that I have not done much at home.  Now that the work load has lessened on my shoulder my mind is going wild with projects that I am just itching to do, or at least get started on.  I have many lists started so I won’t forget what I want to do.  Maybe I will post a list, that way I will feel forced to get it done because others know about it.

Catch Up August 1, 2009

Elvis had a wonderful birthday last weekend and keeps asking if he gets to have another party.  I can’t beleive he is already three but he always remembers to remind me that is how old he is.  He was a little too excited to eat, but that was alright, he wanted to play with his friends and family much more.  It was just the right weather too, I thought it might rain on us but nope we had a good day.  His wish, though, was not expected!  He wished for a real rabbit.  That was the first I had heard of that wish, maybe next year for his birthday.

Elvis did get to go today and get a new pet.  He has asked since we told him we were moving for a fish for his room.  He and I went this morning to get a betta fish.  I was worried the little guy would not make it home from being looked at so many times.  We got the little fish tank set up and I asked what the fishes name was going to be.  Elvis is really enjoying the story of Jonah and the Whale and I thought for sure he was going to be named Jonah.  Nope, We now have a fish named…drum roll please…Fishy.  How unique, but at least he named the little guy all by himself.  After getting Fishy settled in his new home I started in on lunch.  Elvis was a bit to quiet, the kind of quiet you know he is up to something.  I went in to find him with his hand in the fish bowl.  “It’s OK momma, I was just petting him.”  With that kind of statement I don’t know how long he will be a member of our family but Elvis already wants to learn all about fish now so it has become a good learning experience.

We have also been enjoying our small garden, we have started to get zuchini from it and have a couple pumpkins now growing.  I love to garden and to be outside so I am glad that my son has also started to enjoy it.   I have been so busy at work and will not get to take my vacation as I had planned in the summer but rather in the fall so maybe Elvis and I can get the garden all set up for next summers adventures.

Wow! has it been a long time since I have posted but I sure have wanted to. I have been very busy but have finally gotten Internet at my new home and am able to post again. Just in time to because tomorrow is Elvis’s 3rd birthday. Happy Birthday Elvis! He is going to have a party at the park that is right around the corner from our new home. It is Caillou themed this year which was not the easiest to find but with the help of the internet we were able to get the right stuff. Now if I can only find what I did with the camera when we moved I will be able to post some pictures.
